Our second prototype is an assembly that joins two microcontrollers, a gyroscope/magnetometer sensor package, a small OLED screen, and a ring of LEDs. It’s powered by a rechargeable battery. One of our microcontrollers maintains constant interaction with our location service over the internet to determine its location. Currently, it’s able to determine which room it’s in! Our other microcontroller drives feedback to the user through the LED ring in order to navigate using heading. The small screen, a temporary addition, shows the name of the room the device is in. Our location service is a server hosting an open-source software package which uses machine learning and feedback from our prototype to map and track indoor spaces.
